TGIF: Some updates, crochet and prom

Ouuuuuuuch!!! owwwwwwwwwwww! why meeee? *sigh*
Okay, I'm done. Enough of that. I went to the oral surgeon this Tuesday and I just wanted to get some online sympathy as well as offline. lol.
Seriously though, my tooth surgery wasn't too bad. Plus I milked it, and took two days off work. The healing is the hard part, but thank goodness for whoever invented Vicodin. I had my broken tooth extracted and I am now the proud owner of a tooth implant. I had a titanium root implanted into my jaw. Ahhh...the wonders of modern medicine.

Since I had some time off work this week, I grabbed my hook and yarn and watched re-runs of MadMen. I whipped up this little lion this week. I've named him Leonidas.

+++++++++++++++++++++
Last but not least, I had some time this week to dig up my old prom photos. The following is dedicated to the awesome Jenners. (fellow Jersey girl) Jenners has been doing posts where she has shared her old photos and memories. Prom, girl scouts, unicorn fads, etc. etc.
Now, I think Jenners is very brave to share such photos. After my telling her about my senior prom dress, she wondered if I might post a pic. My senior prom was in 1994, I took my hubby. We were just friends back then.
I was an angsty teen, and I was not going to go to prom and be like the rest of the 'sheep', that was my mindset. So my friend (hubby now) convinced me to go and I agreed and asked him to be my date. When we arrived at the place, and saw the photographer, it was my date who suggested we take this photo. I was against it, but I gave in.

I was definitely channeling an R&B diva back then. I wore a short dress, it was navy blue fuzzy type suede material. I managed to find this gem in a bridal shop about a week before prom. I was 17 in this photo, hubby was 21.
You can't really see the details in this pic, but there were slits going all around the hemline. I decided to match it up with long white satin gloves and matching purse and kitty heels with sheer white stockings.
He got me a corsage, but he forgot it at his house he was so nervous. Turns out, he was secretly in love with me. He asked me to be his girlfriend that night, but I refused him and I told him he wasn't my type. We've been married 16 years now and have two children.
A framed 8 by 10 copy of this photo hangs in my mother in laws living room, right next to a framed painting of one of her favorite Orthodox saints :P
I made my hubby get rid of those huge glasses a long time ago...lol.

Enjoy your Friday. I'll be back soon with my review of The Lantern.

Oh Naida, so sorry you had to have oral surgery - glad it all went well and you now have a titanium implant (sounds very 21st century). And you look gorgeous in that prom dress - I wanted to say I'm sure hubby was in love with you - but you said it (LOL)

Ouch, that sounds painful so I'm sending you lots of online sympathy. Loving your lion, very cute and you are gorgeous in your prom dress. As I said to jenners it is only recently that we started having proms here in England so alas (thank goodness) I have no photos to share with you.

Hope you're feeling better soon!

Love the prom picture. Hilarious how you turned him down, then went on to marry him. I love stories like that. It reminds me how I broke up with my now husband two days after we started dating, then we started dating again a week or two later and have been together for 13 years.

Lol, I am pretty sure I would have been like you, against the prom, if we had proms ;)

That's a sweet story - it's good that you have the prom photo now, even if you were there sort of grudgingly at the time.

I'm glad the tooth surgery went well, and that the recovery brought about that cute lion.

Glad you're feeling better and you are braver than me! My prom pics are staying well-buried. But then yours is darling so why bury it!

Sorry about the oral surgery … that sounds awful. But THANK YOU for the prom photo! I couldn't quite imagine it but now I can!!! Loving those gloves! And short is daring!! He does look older than you in that photo! How cool that he was secretly in love with you but you were like "nah." And then you end up married and happy! You just never know. Thanks for sharing your prom photo --- I hope more people do it too!!

That's such a cute pic! Love the long gloves.

And your lion is adorable.

Glad to hear you were at least able to take a couple of days off after your surgery. Sounds painful.

Sorry to hear about the toooth! I feel for you as I almost passed out reading about your dental experience. I hate the dentist.

Love the prom picture. My senior prom was 1991 so my hair is a bit on the high side. My pics are buried somewhere. And hey we were all styling back then :)

Yikes in the dental stuff. I felt sick just reading sbout it. Dentists terrify me as I've already told you. I'm glad you're on the mend and your little lion is adorable.

I love your prom story. How sweet that you two ended up married. You just had to realize you were in love too. Lol.

dar: oh gosh, sorry...lol. I was lucky though, my oral surgeon was really great and he calmed my nerves. I didn't need to be put under for the procedure.

I do like to share my prom story :P Nice memories.
