This week's BTT asks:
What’s more important: Good writing? Or a good story?
This is the perfect question for me right now considering I finished reading The Lantern today.
A good book should have both good writing and a good story, but give me a good story any day over fancy writing.
You can describe vivid sights and sounds until the cows come home, but if the plot and characters are bleh, you'll lose my interest. Which is what happened with The Lantern unfortunately.
What about you?

On another note, I apologize if I'm quiet around the blog-o-sphere this week. I'm very busy reading extra on my free time as part of the Winter's Respite Read-a-Thon. And as luck would have it, I chipped a tooth and have wound up at the dentist this week. I also have to go back first thing tomorrow morning to the oral surgeon since the break is deep :(
Wish me luck.

Not big on what I call flowery writing, I love a good story with, perhaps even more importantly, good, interesting characters.
Of course it is lovely if it has both but a great story can be amazing even with no so good writing :)
I have to have a good story. Without it I quit reading. Good luck with the dentist. I'm busy trying to find one. I'm terrified of them so that doesn't help. Lol.
Well...not to knock the Twilight series or anything (cause I devoured all four of those books) but the writing wasn't the best. It was all STORY!
Good luck with your reading challenge and at the oral surgeon Naida!
I hope everything goes well with the tooth.
It's a tough question you ask. Because bad writing can pull me out of a good plot, and I can't think of something as being 'good writing' if there's no development or story anywhere. Everything needs to sync up for it to work - the story, the writing style, the characters.
Good luck, Naida!
The question is a good one. I think good writing is ultimately more important, although good writing deserves a good story to tell.
Enjoy the read-a-thon!!
I agree with you, I prefer a good story. After reading a book this week with a lot of flowery writing, but the story fell flat, and than this question showed up, I had no trouble choosing a "Good Story."
thank you for your comments everyone :)
johanna, lol..I enjoyed the Twilight books too. Guilty pleasure reads.
well said HKatz "Everything needs to sync up for it to work"<- very true.
suko, you are so right "good writing deserves a good story to tell"
dar, I know what you mean, I'm scared of them too...lol
petty, if the characters fall flat, forget it.
blod and gigi, if the author tells the story well, they can pull it off
Good writing is important, but then again I'd love to read a book with a good story that intrigues me too. :)
Loving that photo!
And I agree -- story trumps writing but if you can have both, it is the best!
mel: agreed, both are important :)
jenners: lol...I thought that pic was so cute when I saw it.
