Really Random Tuesday: Elf on a Shelf is back and some crochet

Really Random Tuesday is hosted by Suko.

Happy Tuesday everyone. Can you believe November is nearly over?
Have you started your holiday shopping yet? Decorating? I hope to get started this weekend.

One fun Christmas tradition is still going strong here in our home. The Elf on a Shelf made his yearly appearance this past Thanksgiving. This little elf, which my kids named Noel, shows up every Thanksgiving and each day after through Christmas Eve. He randomly shows up around our house in different spots. This way, he keeps an eye on the kids to see who is being naughty and who is being nice. He reports back to Santa every day and on Christmas Eve he heads back to the North Pole until he makes his appearance again next Thanksgiving.

Although my kids are already 15 and 11, they play along and enjoy seeing where the elf makes his appearances. My niece and nephew have an elf also, and they are younger, ages 5 and 10. Well, they each swear they've seen their elf fly, blow a kiss and wink :P Kids are too funny when they let their imaginations run wild.

On the reading front, I did pretty well for November I think.
I read:
1. A Lawman’s Christmas (favorite read of the month)
2. Bonjour 40 - A Paris travel log (40 years, 40 days, 40 seconds)
3. Dearly, Departed
4. The Man Who Couldn't Eat
5. Do You QuantumThink?: New Thinking That Will Rock Your World
6. 52 Small Changes: One Year to a Happier, Healthier You (review set to post tomorrow)
7. Wishin' and Hopin': A Christmas Story (review set to post first of December)
8. A Country Christmas (short story)

You know what I miss? Borders :( I miss randomly going there and browsing. There are no bookstores near me and I have been buying books either at Target or on Amazon, but it's just not the same.
Anyway, I've also been hooking away crocheting scarves lately. I'll close my post with a few pics.
I need to get some audio books so I can crochet and read at the same time.

Your Elf on a Shelf tradition sounds so fun! And I love your scarves! I decorated my house this past weekend since I"m going to be gone for almost 2 weeks in December and didn't want to come home to no tree!

I should consider getting that Elf on the Shelf. My son would probably love it! ; )

And I think audio and crochet would be a perfect match!

You did a really nice job on those scarves!! I miss Borders as well and although I have a Barnes and Noble that is kind of close by...it just isn't the same. I am lucky enough to have a used book store which I go to on a regular basis. It sounds like you had a really great month of reading in November. Congrats!

I only read or listened to eight books in November. I listened to two of those books while I finished crocheting the baby blanket. Put it in the mail on Monday to my Granddaughter for her new baby daughter, Brooke due on January 12, 2012.

I love Elf, such a great tradition.

Also loving your scarves, especially the yellow one as this is my favourite colour.

That makes me so sad that you don't have any bookstores locally! Not even small ones?? There's such a big difference between shopping at an honest to goodness bookstore and on line or at Target. Target just doesn't have the depth!

Your scarves are so beautiful!I haven't seen much crochet work before. Yours is gorgeous!!

Elf on a Shelf is hilarious. When I first looked at him he reminded me a little of Pinocchio :)

I miss Borders too... I hope Barnes and Noble doesn't go the same way. When visiting NYC I noticed that they closed their huge store on 66th and Broadway.

:/ We have one bookstore, and I do love to browse. Without it, I can't even think about that.

And I love the elf

kathleen: thats a good idea to put up your tree now, so you can come back to it :)
Enjoy that vacation!

mel: yes, I hate the crowds too.

jenners; your son might like it

thanks ames and yvonne :)

gigi: how lovely, congrats on the Granddaughter and on finishing that blanket :) The new baby will be here before you know it.

blod: its wonderful to be able to browse a bookstore.

johanna: well, there are a few Barnes and Nobles, but the closest is about 30 mins away with no traffic.
I'm going to have to hunt for small bookstores.
Thank you for the compliments on my crochet :)

HKatz: lol, he does look like Pinocchio.
Thats too bad Barnes on Broadway closed up.

thank you petty :)
