Romance Reading Challenge

'The voice of the sea speaks to the soul. The touch of the sea is sensuous, enfolding the body in its soft, close embrace.'- The Awakening by Kate Chopin
the 2009 challenge has begun!
I've been wanting to do a reading challenge for a while now and after giving it some thought I came up with a theme. I hope other bloggers might be interested. I haven't seen any romance themed reading challenges, and I enjoy reading this genre so I'm doing a 'Romance Reading Challenge'. It's easy. You just choose 5 Romance Novels and read them in 2008. Read on for the 'rules'. This challenge runs from January 1-December 1.
1. Now, "Romance" isn't limited to steamy Harlequin novels. There is a huge selection of books in this category such as contemporary romance, historical romance, romantic suspense and paranormal romance to name a few. As long as the story has romantic love between the two main characters your selection will fit this challenge. The novels do not need to have a happy ending either, there can also be unrequited love.
Here are just a few examples for this challenge.

Rebellion by Nora Roberts

Breakfast at Stephanie's by Sue Margolis
Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte

Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen

Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell

The Awakening by Kate Chopin

The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks
The Mermaid Chair by Sue Monk Kidd

Bridget Jones's Diary by Helen Fielding

Stephenie Meyer's 'Twilight'

The Princess Bride by William Goldman

Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood, Book 1) by J.R. Ward
A Hunger Like No Other (The Immortals After Dark Series, Book 1) by Kresley Cole

Thrill of the Knight by Julia Latham
2.
Choose at least 5 novels read them sometime in 2008.
You can change your choices at any time.3. Read them at your own pace in 2008 then come here and post the link to your review(s). This challenge runs from January 1-December 1.
4. Link your "RRC" choices here with any of these graphics:

5. Ready? Please leave a comment to this post also if you are joining us, in case 'mr. linky' ever goes down.

Thank you for hosting this challenge! I am very happy to have found it. :)
Woo hoo
Joining up for this - already have romances put by for other challenges for next year - so can incorporate them with this challenge :)
I'm in! The is my favorite genre! :)
wow, great! glad you all are joining up. It will be fun :o)
Becky, I just joined your Austen challenge too.
I'll definitely be joining you guys in this one. Romance is my favorite genre and I have one whole bookshelf devoted just to my romance collection. I just have to decide which ones are screaming the loudest (and it's getting loud in here)!
I'm in! I haven't chosen my books yet but I think it will be a mix of old and new making sure all will be new reads for me. I am looking forward to this challenge!
I am in! I have been meaning to read a few romances lately. This challenge isperfect for that!
Haven't read any romance since I was widowed, maybe it would be a nice change.
great, glad you are all joining!
I'm unchallenging myself, but what a great idea!!! Maybe I'll be a late joiner. I've read 5 of the titles you've got on your list and loved all of them but Wuthering Heights, which I didn't personally find the slightest bit romantic.
hi bookfool, hope you join us later. Well, I think Wuthering Heights is a love story, but not just that, it's about death and revenge too. Even though Heathcliff is a villain, he loves Catherine to the very end.
I haven't read anything remotely romance in forever. I might need to get back to that.
I'm considering trying this challenge and I was wondering if I can add in a Shakespeare play?
Heather

A LEGIT REASON FOR READING ROMANCE.I'm in. I'll start with Norah roberts and then Georgette Heyer. It also firts with the Russian challenge hosted by ex libris on typepad.
thanks for joining wormauld
Most likely Romeo and Juliet will be the Shakespeare play. I'll work on my list and post sometime soon.
yep Heather, that definitely counts.
Well, I've never been a reader of romance. In fact I've given away stacks and stacks of Harlequin's without reading them because they make me depressed. After finding your challenge and realizing that romance isn't just "smutty" books LOL I realized that I read a little more romance than I thought. So I'm in!! Can't wait to start!!
*yay* Kristina!
I'm in. :-)
glad to hear it Christina!
Think I'd like to join your challenge...

I've finally narrowed my list down to five. It was tough ;>). Actually, I'll be reading many more romances in 2008, but you can find my list for this challenge on my blog - Passion for the Page. And I've signed up with Mr. Linky. Now, the wait for the beginning of the year to begin ;>). ~Kristi
